| GARDENS
So much unfolds in a garden: we work and rest; grow food and tend plants; host others and enjoy solitude; and notice shifting rhythms as we contemplate our place within the cosmos.
Garden commissioners include Cairo Children’s Museum, Doddington Hall and private clients in the UK, Finland and the US.
Suffolk Farmstead
My love of gardens is rooted in childhood memories of a kitchen garden, abundant flower beds and woodland that surrounded the home. Those early experiences continue to guide much of what I seek to create for others today.
One such project was a Suffolk farmstead perched above a tidal estuary, bathed in bright light and lively weather. The clients shared a strong vision: to honor the spirit of the place while restoring and re-imaginaing elements that had been lost over time from a traditional farmhouse and its domain.
Together, we simplified the existing structure of the garden and wove it back into its hinterland: orchards, nectar-rich hedges, wildflower meadows, field trees, and blossom rich trees. Closer to the farmhouse, we planted abundant herbaceous borders—full of scent, nectar, colour, and movement.
It was a valuable experience to collaborate with Beth Chatto Gardens in sourcing plants suited to the region’s dry, light soils, and with Jess Dighton of Botanica, whose expertise in heritage orchards brought back fruit trees chosen for their history, resilience, and the flavour and delight they offer.
